Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino

I promised you pumpkin last week and here it is.  These pumpkin spice frappucinos are the perfect treat for fall. Now that it’s October, I am completely prepared and ready to cook, bake and mix pumpkin!

I asked my daughter yesterday what kind of dish I should prepare with pumpkin for FN Dish (Foodnetwork) Let’s Pull Up a Chair segment.  I was bored with the usual muffin and quick bread recipes and felt I needed some inspiration.  She immediately asked me to simulate Starbuck’s pumpkin spice frappucinos. My kids love frappucinos, so it was the perfect copy-cat recipe to experiment with.

Peach Oatmeal Bread

I know it’s fall and maybe not peach season anymore, but you have to give this peach oatmeal bread a try.  It’s chock full of juicy peaches, hearty oats and topped with my favorite brown sugar crumble.  Just to add a little seasonal flair – I added pumpkin pie spice to the bread and crumble.  It’s crazy good.

Potato and Apple Gratin

Autumn is officially here (even though it’s 78 degrees in San Diego) and this potato apple gratin is the perfect dish to usher in the season.  Cheese, potatoes, milk, sweet apples and some herbaceous rosemary, make this dish the perfect comfort food for a chilly evening.

Why apples? First of all, it’s Fall and they’re in season!  Secondly I love the sweet and salty creation of matching these ingredients in one delicious, hearty side dish. Third - have you ever had potato latkes with apple sauce? These two ingredients make a perfect pair.  Finally lets face it, as September draws to a close and Halloween is looming in the not so distant future, apples are simply the "it" ingredient.

Grape Sorbet

This grape sorbet is made with fresh black grapes, simple syrup, a touch of lemon and gelatin.  Yes, I said gelatin.  Low and behold, I learned this trick at

I have never bit the bullet and bought an ice cream maker.  I have so many gadgets and I am just not sure I would use it enough to make it worth my while.  Therefore, I generally don’t make sorbets and ice creams; just some granitas here and there.  However, gelatin is great because it produces a creamy quality that you often can’t achieve without an ice cream maker.

Oreo Muffins + 5 Tips for Homemade Bakery Style Muffins

I have been dying to make these Oreo muffins for weeks now.  On our recent vacation to Vancouver Island, we visited our absolutely favorite haunt - Masons grocery store.  This place is awesome!  It’s the overwhelming smell of baked goods when entering the front doors, that gets you every time.  More specifically Mason’s is actually not a bakery – just a plain old store with some necessities so you can avoid the longer trip to a larger market.  However, they make some mean in house bakery items and have a candy aisle that would knock your socks off.  And it’s Canadian candy, offering an array of different chocolate bars that you can’t find in the States.  Have you ever had a Crunchie Bar or a Coffee Crisp? If you can get your hands on these, they are heavenly, and my personal all time favorite candy bars.

Beet Risotto with Goat Cheese

One of the greatest food combinations is beets and goat cheese.  Therefore, this beet risotto with goat cheese recipe sings of food harmony heaven.  The earthy sweetness of the beet compliments the tangy richness of the cheese.  The creamy risotto ties it all together in the most amazing side dish or first course.
